Facade Cladding

Façade cladding can serve both architectural and functional purposes, depending on the building and system design.

On insulated buildings, it can be used as an additional architectural layer over the main building envelope, providing greater freedom in façade geometry, materials, colours and textures. Where acoustic performance is relevant, the cladding system can also be designed to contribute to sound reduction, using the external cladding layer, cavity and supporting build-up to improve the acoustic performance of the façade.

For unheated storage areas, cold storage buildings and other spaces where thermal insulation is not required, cladding can form the external enclosure itself. Depending on the required level of protection, ventilation and visual openness, solutions can range from solid profiled sheets and perforated panels to mesh and grille systems.

In many of our projects, architectural cladding is installed over a sandwich panel façade. The sandwich panels provide the insulated building envelope, while a dedicated substructure supports the external architectural layer.

Where we provide the complete system, we verify the sandwich panels for the additional loads introduced by the cladding, taking into account the cladding dimensions and weight, substructure and relevant project-specific loads.

This allows the sandwich panels, supporting substructure and architectural cladding to be coordinated as one façade build-up, combining an efficient insulated envelope with greater architectural freedom.

Our solutions can incorporate aluminium, steel, wood, Thermowood and composite materials, using cassette systems, corrugated or profiled sheets, perforated elements, mesh, grilles and other project-specific façade components.

Different profiles, dimensions, colours, coatings, textures, perforations and installation patterns can be combined to achieve the intended architectural character.

Where the design requires non-standard geometry or detailing, we can develop the necessary substructures, brackets, corners, transitions, framing around openings and other bespoke components to turn the architectural vision into a buildable façade.

Depending on the project, our scope can include the supporting substructure, cladding elements, bespoke details, flashings, delivery and installation.

Where façade cladding is combined with our sandwich panel systems, the complete solution can be coordinated from the insulated wall and structural verification through to the finished external architectural layer.
